Aboyne was originally a nine-hole course situated on the village green as far back as 1881.

The current course measures close to 6, 000-yards and was extensively rebuilt and renovated. It re-opened as such in the summer of 1991. Aboyne Loch lends a certain charm and beauty to the course as well as providing a hazard to be avoided at the ninth. At the turn the course climbs upwards giving magnificent views of spectacular Aberdeenshire.

A small loch awaits the unwary at the 15th and the last four holes are a challenge for even the best golfers. The final hole is a long par three and completes fittingly a superb round of golf.
